March 2nd is right around the corner. That is the day when city voters will select the candidates for the St. Louis City Mayor’s Office.
Where does Revitalize stand on this? Who do we think will be the best candidate to lead our city forward?
Here’s my take. It might be unpopular. But it matters less than most people think.
First a little background. From its inception nearly 25 years ago ReVitalize has always been about promoting the benefits of city living. We still are. But we also realize and have evolved into understanding that a strong city needs a stronger region. In reinventing ourselves for 2021 we tried to answer the question, ‘what makes for a strong region, a livable city?’
The answer is both simple and complicated. But the answer is people. We at ReVitalize call it developing Communities in Unity. It’s about all of us working together, connecting resources and understanding that while we may fall divided, we must stand united.
So why does the selection of the mayoral candidate matter less than most people think?
It’s because no one person can lead STL forward. Each one of us has to take responsibility and personal accountability for making our region better. And that’s the mission of ReVitalize. The mission is to highlight the changemakers, the doers, the individuals, the non profits, the businesses and the organizations that are moving the region forward. While we give kudos and a tip of the cap to the major cultural and educational institutions that lead our city, we also believe that we have an amazing collection of smaller ones that do the same. We want to share their stories with you. To inspire you and to connect you.
On March 2nd you will select the best candidates. But never doubt for one second that the best candidate is you. This city needs you.
No one person can lead STL forward. Each one of us has to take responsibility and personal accountability for making our region better. And that’s the mission of ReVitalize.
